Belize is a favored locale for targeting the challenging and coveted Saltwater Grand Slam: catching a Bonefish, Permit and Tarpon on the same day. You are offered (8 hours) and half-day guiding on the flats and the area lagoons by experienced local guides in Dolphin Super Skiffs (limit 2 anglers per skiff.) Your guides are patient and passionate, able to accommodate skill levels from novice to advanced. Depending on the fishing location and the target species, anglers will either fish one at a time from the front deck of the skiff while the guide pushes the boat with a long pole (aka poling), or both anglers and the guide will get out of the boat to wade on firm sand and grass flats.
From the Sayonara Wreck to the Elbow, this trip offers unrivaled accessibility to Belize’s most lucrative dives. Some dive sites are relatively shallow and great for novice divers, while the more adventurous can cave dive to 130 feet deep inside the infamous Great Blue Hole where stalactites and sharks await. Each day includes up to 3 scheduled dives guided by PADI-certified Dive Masters, including a night dive one day a week.
Swim with schools of fish, gargantuan turtles and rays on 2 scheduled guided snorkeling excursions every day – all within minutes of your guestroom by boat. Spend your days where shades of sapphire and turquoise collide in the Caribbean Sea’s shallows. If you choose to only snorkel (not fish or dive) this week, the cost is reduced to $3000.
The day’s meals are served in the dining room upstairs of the gift shop and office.
Happy Hour with hors d’oeuvres is at 6:30p daily, dinner at 7:30p. The meal menu is posted on a board and often offers a choice of main course. Additional servings are served by the staff in case guests desire more of the delicious entrees and sides. The menu varies from Continental cuisine to local Belizean favorites and can feature steak, lobster, fish, pork and chicken with fresh vegetable sides and in-house made breads. Special requests and diets can be accommodated (please include this on your registration form with Backwoods Adventures). A large and varied wine selection is available by the bottle or glass. Desserts are made in-house and are incredible!
This trip can offer as much or as little exertion as you seek. The island itself is easy to navigate on foot as most access is ground level with the exception to short stairs to the Villas, the pool and cabana bar area, and a few of the docks. Larger staircases lead to the dining room and some of the other room accommodations. It should be noted, this resort is not considered to be handicap-accessible.
Activity’s exertion can range from easy swimming, snorkeling, wading and use of paddlecraft, to more intensive exertions for long skiff rides across choppy waters, and more involved paddling, swimming and diving. Your guide will be extremely mindful of weather conditions and will cancel or postpone activities to ensure the safety and enjoyment of our guests.
