Kevin McConnell is the CEO of Backwoods, but he wears many hats: Boss, trip host, visionary, artist and chef to name a few. A graduate of Tulane, a native of Fort Worth, who calls Austin his current home, Kevin has helped build many successful businesses during his carrier in various industries, but has always maintained a love of the outdoors.
As an avid fisherman, hunter and explorer, Kevin's passion for adventure takes him all over the country: fly fishing for Louisiana redfish in the Winter, hiking Big Bend in the Spring, stalking the flats of Belize in the summer, and West Texas waterfowl hunting in the Fall.
"Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn. Climb that goddamn mountain." - Jack Kerouac
Q&A with Kevin
|What does your perfect day look like?||My perfect day requires a bit of imagination, and a really fast private jet. It would begin with a bluebird morning in the Texas Panhandle calling to mallard ducks, followed by a quick jaunt south to whip a fly rod at bull reds in the Louisiana Marsh, then back to Austin to catch the twilight act at ACL Music festival, then back to the house to watch some college football and grill out with family and close friends.|
|Any vices?||Um, far too many to list here.|
|What’s at the top of your bucket list?||One word…Seychelles (I will be hosting a Backwoods Adventures’ trip to this world-class fly fishing destination in 2021).|
|What’s the biggest adventure you’ve taken so far?||Trekking high into the Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda to get up-close and personal with the endangered Mountain Gorillas.|
|What’s the most important piece of gear you pack in your backpack?||This is a highly personal question that I’m not comfortable answering, but certainly relates to one or my many vices.|
