Jodee Larsen is the general manager of Backwoods Omaha, a native of Omaha and a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha. When she’s not running the store and sharing her knowledge with the Backwoods community, you’ll find her running, hiking, cycling and paddling in and around Omaha, South Dakota, and Yosemite National Park. One day she hopes to open her own restaurant, but for now she remains an indispensable member of the Backwoods team.

Q&A with Jodee

Where do you go for fun? Yosemite is my favorite, but I’m also a big fan of South Dakota; great hiking, trail running, cycling, camping up there. We like to go up to the dam at Lewis and Clark lake, which is just two and half hours from Omaha.
What does your perfect day look like? Go outside for the first half of the day and then cook a fantastic meal for the second half of the day. I’ve always wanted to start my own restaurant.
What’s your spirit animal? Owl, because they are so fantastic. First of all, they can hear a mouse’s heartbeat under the snow, they can see a newspaper article from across a football field, and they’re incredibly intelligent. Plus, I’m a night owl as well.
Where in the world do you most want to visit? Tuscany. The food, the wine, the culture. I’d love to take a cycling tour to see the vineyards, the architecture, the history.
Biggest adventure you’ve taken? Yosemite. We saw every part of it in just six days, entirely by accident. It’s a big, big park, but I wasn’t aware of just how big it was. So I booked it two weeks before we left, and we ended up staying at the very bottom of the park. As a result, we ended up doing a lot of driving to get to certain places, which allowed us to see every part of it in a short amount of time.
What’s the most important piece of gear you pack in your backpack? Anything from Icebreaker. 90% of my wardrobe is Icebreaker.
