Adventure Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrival, Hiking & Fishing

Arrive at Elk Creek campground on the first day at 11am to get checked into designated campsites for each client. After all personal gear is unloaded and all the clients have checked in, then we will make lunches for the first afternoon of fishing on the creek. There will be a 2.5 mile hike on the Elk Creek trail out to the second meadow for the first round of fishing. The group will move down to the first meadow after a few hours fishing before the sun starts going down, the group will wrap up fishing and head back to camp. Elk creek runs next to the campground, which allows for additional fishing while dinner is being cooked and served up. Enjoy dinner and s’mores by the campfire to finish off the first day at Elk Creek.

Day 2 - Hike Elk Creek for Remote Fishing

The start of day two begins with a quick camp breakfast and getting lunches packed and ready to go for the longest day of the trip. There will be 8 miles of hiking round trip on day two that will be focused on getting into the third and fourth meadows of Elk Creek. These farthest out meadows hold the biggest and hungriest trout on the creek, the goal is to fish these meadows for 3 hours each. Lunch will be a mountain style picnic on the creek banks while sharing the days fishing and hiking experience. This will be a full day of hiking and fishing, expect to be away from camp for nearly 12 hours. Once arriving back at camp for the night, dinner will be served around a campfire and warm cobbler will be served for dessert.

Day 3 - Half-Day of Fishing & Departure

On the third and final day, there will be one last fishing session on the water that is optional for all clients who would like to participate. In the morning, breakfast will be served and lunches will be provided for all clients that would like one. The final day fishing will be a hike up to the first meadow on Elk Creek, this will be 2.5 miles round trip. It will be a half day of fishing altogether, we will head back to camp at 1pm. Back at camp the Backwoods team will start the clean up and break down process of the campsites and allow ample time for clients to get on the road.

Elk Creek is located in the Rio Grande National Forest in southern Colorado and offers just the right amount of backcountry camping, hiking and remote fly fishing. Each day will be full of hiking out to the meadows of Elk Creek; while wading the water and casting for the native rainbow and brown trout that are hearty and plentiful. The water is icy cold and is clear mountain run off with prolific and complex hatches during the summer months. Fly Fishing at 9,000 feet above sea level offers incredible views, beautiful wildlife and allows for time to unwind and relax on a long weekend.

This trip is located in Southern Colorado at the Elk Creek Campground near Antonito, CO. Each client will check-in with a Backwoods host and be guided to a designated campsite. The campsites are located in the Elk Creek campground in the Rio Grande National Forest; the campground has bathrooms and running water for drinking and cooking. The campground is very secluded and is walking distance to Elk Creek and the Elk Creek trail. Each client will be outfitted with a full camping setup for the entirety of the trip. There is an on-site Backwoods guide and host that will lead each hike and assist in fly fishing, prepare meals and help with any individual accommodations. No campsite setup or break down is required by clients, the Backwoods team will provide those services.


This trip includes hikes of multiple miles over rough and uneven ground. There may be steep descents and ascents, so physical preparation is very important.

Single Supplement

All prices are calculated for double-occupancy. To ensure your comfort, we will always match you with a roommate of the same sex – and if we're unable to match you with a roommate, you may end up with your own room free of charge. If sharing is not your idea of fun, you can request a single supplement for a small upcharge when you pay your final amount. You will be able to make this election on your trip registration.
