Day 3 - Golden Circle Adventure

  • Our day starts early from the hotel at 08:30 we will head northeast of Reykjavik and on to the Golden Circle, the most popular tour in Iceland. It covers three main attractions: Thingvellir National Park, Geysir Hot Spring and the Golden Waterfall.
  • At Thingvellir, we’ll encounter the birthplace of the Icelandic nation, as well as the foundation site of the first Viking Parliament or Althingi in the year of 930. It is still the oldest existing parliament in the world. Thingvellir is one of the spots where we can appreciate more clearly the forces shaping our planet as the tectonic plates spread apart creating new crust. We visit the visual Rift Between the Eurasian and American Continents
  • Our second stop will be at the hot spring we call Geysir (the geyser from which the word is derived) to witness an eruption every 7 minutes or so.
  • From the geyser we head to the Golden Waterfall. This spectacular waterfall in the Hvítá River is as magnificent when partly frozen in the winter-time as it is fluid in the summer.
  • Our journey takes us to a wonderful place to have lunch, the Fridheimar Tomato farm. Tomatoes are the theme of Friðheimar cuisine – and that’s not surprising, since four different varieties of tomato are cultivated in the greenhouses, where food is served among the tomato plants. A unique food experience.
  • Hotel Rangá Standard Room

Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 4 - Thorsmork & Eyjafjallajokull Adventure

  • Our day starts early from the hotel at 08:30 when we head east towards the southern part of Iceland where some of the country’s most iconic sites are located.
  • We arrive at Gljúfrabúi and Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls which will be our first stop before heading into Thorsmork, Thor’s Ravine, an area resembling something from Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings or even Game of Thrones; not entirely farfetched as Thorsmork is one of the shooting locations for the series. Our journey will take us around Eyjafjallajokull Glacier, which earned its notoriety when it erupted in April of 2010, spewing ash into the atmosphere that spread to Europe consequently closing all airspace for a number of days.
  • With its unique surroundings, including stunning waterfalls, panoramic views of glaciers and small valleys Thorsmork offers amazing sights that everyone has to see when traveling to Iceland, but it is not accessible with the ordinary rental car.
  • Wonderful opportunity for hikes in gorges with breathtaking waterfalls.
  • On this adventure you will witness first-hand the incredible natural forces that meet here in Iceland. Water, ice and volcanoes seemingly coexist in Iceland, creating an overabundance of energy, which can be seen on this awesome South Coast Adventure. This tour will bring you to the black beaches of Iceland’s southern coast. See Dyrhólaey Head, Reynisfjara Beachand Skógafoss. This tour will give you the opportunity to enjoy the magnificent and uniquelandscape formed by the volcano Katla, which lies dormant under the ice cap Mýrdalsjokull Glacier. Weather and visibility allowing, the great view to the glacierand along the coast line to Dyrhólaey can be enjoyed – Single or double Riders
  • Continuing on our route past the formidable mountain of Lómagnúpur, about an hour-and-a-half’s drive east of Vík is Vatnajokull, Europe’s largest glacier and Iceland’s highest peak, Hvannadalshnúkur. It’s truly one of Iceland’s most iconicsights.
  • Fosshótel Glacier Lagoon Standard Rooms

Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 5 - Glacier Lagoon, Stokksnes and the East Fjords

  • Beyond Skaftafell National Park are two Glacier Lagoons, Fjallsárlón and Jokulsárlón Glacier Lagoons. Both are in the foothills of Iceland’s largest glacier and Iceland’s highest peak, and well worth a look. In good weather, the environment is a setting for some spectacular photos.
  • Jokulsárlón Glacial Lagoon is the better known of the two with many Hollywood movies having been filmed there. On the coast, chunks of ice from the glacier melt to form what has recently become known as Diamond Beach.
  • We continue on the ring road on a counter-clockwise tour of Iceland towards the town of Hofn, a small fishing community that prides itself on their langoustines, where we willstop for an early lunch.
  • A few kilometers east of Hofn is one of Iceland’s most iconic places, Stokksnes and Vesturhorn.
  • Fáskrúðsfjorður is an old fishing town. At the bottom of the fjord there is a grassy valley with lovely arctic woodlands. The town at the bottom of the fjord goes by the name of Búdir, but everyone calls it Fáskrúdsfjord.
  • We head across on last mountain pass and arrive in the town of Egilsstaðir where we will stay for the night.
  • Gistihusid Egilsstaðir Lake View Rooms

Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 6 - Dttifoss and Lake Mývatn

  • From Egilsstaðir.our route now takes us north and further to the west. We will passover Moðrudalsoræfi Plain and make our way north to Dettifoss, Europe’s mostpowerful waterfall.
  • After lunch, we head towards the volcanic area of Lake Mývatn and, weather permitting, go on hikes around the calderas and lava fields.
  • As you approach Lake Mývatn, you will most likely start to smell the sulfur coming from the hot water in the area particularly from the geothermal area around Krafla. Krafla is one of Iceland’s most spectacular and active volcanoes.
  • The prominent Hverfjall and Ludent tuff rings east of Lake Mývatn are the results of eruptions along the 100km-long fissure system, which extends as far as the north coast of Iceland. For nearly a decade the Krafla caldera and Krafla fissures erupted on and off in the period 1975-1984.
  • Fosshotel Mývatn on Lake Mývatn Twin with view of Lake Mývatn

Meals Included: Breakfast

Day 7 - Dimmuborgir, Húsavík and the Geosea Baths

  • We start the day by driving to the town of Húsavík where we will enjoy a whale-watching excursion.
  • Whale watching in Húsavík on the Skjálfandi Bay, often referred to as the whale watching capitol of Europe
  • It is a unique adventure at sea – watching the wonders of nature in the beautiful surroundings of Skjálfandi Bay, sheltered by the stunning mountains of Vík. This is where our roots lie, where our ancestors used to live in peace and joy for centuries, living in total harmony with the unpredictable and untamed nature of the North Atlantic.
  • After the whale watching we will stop at the GeoSea Baths and enjoy the spectacular view of the Arctic Ocean from a seaside cliff. The GeoSea sea baths enable you to enjoy nature in a unique manner. Thanks to the underground heat, the seawater in the baths is warm and comfortable and the mineral-rich water will caress your skin. While the warm sea works its miracles, you can enjoy the view of the mountain range to the west, Skjálfandi Bay beneath the cliffs and the Arctic Circle itself on the horizon.
  • On our way to Akureyri we will stop at Goðafoss Waterfall, one of Iceland’s most iconic waterfalls.
  • Spend the remainder of the day exploring the town of Akureyri.
  • Kea Hotel in Downtown Akureyri - Superior Double

  • We have a wonderful opportunity to go for a horseback ride around the countryside.
  • We return to the road and head towards Reykjavik where we will stop at the cliff of Hvítserkur. Keep your eyes open because the area is also known for its large seal colony.
  • As we make our way further east towards the valley of Húsafell, we come to our next stop at Deildartunguhver, Iceland’s (and Europe’s) largest hot spring.
  • Just a few minutes down the road is our next stop at Hraunfossar Waterfalls where water seeps down the vertical walls of a 1000-year-old lava field.

You will want to schedule your flight to arrive no later than 10am on Day 1. We always recommend coming in a day early in the case of a delay. On the final day of the tour, you may leave at any time. The single supplement for the tour is $1300. If you do not have a roommate but wish to share, we will try to pair you with a roommate from the tour; but if none is available, you will be billed for the single supplement.
